It's challenge time!

Comment with Just One Thing that you've accomplished in the past twenty-four hours. It doesn't have to be a hard thing, or even a thing you think is particularly awesome. Just a thing that you did.

Feel free to share more than one thing if you’re feeling accomplished!

Extra credit: find someone in the comments and give them props for what they achieved!

Nothing is too big, too small, too strange, or too cryptic. And in case you'd rather do this in private, anonymous comments are screened.

Told an online community I've been part of for six or seven years that I'm taking a break due to toxicity. It's not the fault of the familiar faces (excepting a couple faces who are familiar but unwelcome), it's the fault of the persistently appearing people who are there only to stir shit, and also the moderation (or, more precisely, general lack thereof) there.

TW: illness and death

Have not panicked, despite Grandma being decidedly unwell. Have not let her getting annoyed with me get in the way of me nursing her, either. And I haven't ripped off the head of any doctor or family member that doubts my judgement without even seeing Grandma.

I have even reminded myself that my judgement is usually held to be good in medical matters: I notice the right things and can describe a situation to a doctor accurately enough for them to get a diagnosis, seven times out of ten, and can often hazard my own diagnosis. And the eighth and ninth time out of ten, the doctor ignores me and says that the person is fine to go home. This once resulted in someone being dead* and once in my best friend nearly needing a blood transfusion. It's also resulted in unnecessary x-rays, stupid prescriptions that don't help, and generally a good portion of wasted time. I don't blame them, since I have no medical training beyond life experience, but it's reassuring to me to know that I'm not often wrong.

And I haven't beaten myself up today about going for English Lit and not using these instincts for the medical profession.

*It is a super fun story about how a seventeen year old brat of a girl could describe her teacher's symptoms so perfectly that her doctor mother could pinpoint exactly what was wrong. I knew from looking at him that it was his heart: my mother knew from my description alone that it was an aneurism in the ascending aorta. And so it proved to have been. The doctors at the hospital said it was indigestion when he went there, just hours before he died.

Sorry, comm, I needed to ramble. Suffice it to say, I have dealt with this awesomely, I have been doing self-care like a boss, and if I tell you to go to the hospital, you should probably trust me.

I have been having totally reasonable but misdirected rage since Monday morning (the orthodontist is a TERRIBLE PERSON WHOM I DO NOT WANT AS A HEALTHCARE PROVIDER) which has been mostly directed towards Partner, who is not terribly fond of getting into screaming arguments over whether or not to eventually buy end tables for a couch that we may get in the future, especially when he knows that it is all the orthodontist's fault. It is 21:14. I have been in Partner's presence since he picked me up from work at 17:45. We have not yet had a screaming argument. Victory.

Woo! XP in surviving boring meetings! I always hope that XP will eventually cause me to level up in "running practical, swift, and not boring meetings someday". Or alternatively "not ever having to go to a stupid meeting again."

I took screencaps of the life of the eleventh century saint Gilduin of Dol from the online Acta Sanctorum, because the downloadable .pdfs were illegible, and then spent several hours transcribing them. It turned out to be a little light on miracles for a respectable saint's life (although it had a fun exorcism scene when a bunch of mysterious food showed up, which turned out to be frogs, toads, and serpents diabolically made to look like food, the true nature of which our saintly hero revealed), but it did have a fairly respectable amount of not-inaccurate historical information about Gelduin's family. Nerdy glee!

(icon super-appropriate, given that it's a doodle from a manuscript page detailing Gilduin's family's relationship with the abbey of Saint-Florent de Saumur)

Impressive forebearance! And swift retribution for your orthodontist if you find wishing for that kind of thing appropriate...

I didn't have a complete breakdown when I locked myself out of my flat for the THIRD time this year.

I opened my front door myself in the end because the person trying to drill through my doorframe and pop the lock was incompetent (I nicked his hammer and used it to lever the door open through the letterbox).

After this debacle I met up with my friends for dinner and had a nice time, even though I felt crap about missing the pre-dinner film we had arranged to see.

Bonus! I gave a spare set of keys to a friend to prevent future occurrences.
