Just One Thing (26 February 2020)

It's challenge time!

Comment with Just One Thing you've accomplished in the last 24 hours or so. It doesn't have to be a hard thing, or even a thing that you think is particularly awesome. Just a thing that you did.

Feel free to share more than one thing if you're feeling particularly accomplished!

Extra credit: find someone in the comments and give them props for what they achieved!

Nothing is too big, too small, too strange or too cryptic. And in case you'd rather do this in private, anonymous comments are screened. I will only unscreen if you ask me to.

Go!

The final to-and-fro.

Got a misdelivered piece of mail to the right place.

Was ready to go to the movies on short notice. Had a plan for the obnoxiously placed recline controls.

Asked for moral support in cooking.

I love the idea of moral support in cooking. I think it’s after the cooking’s happened that I feel the most need for it (was all that faff worth it? did I use that expensive ingredient efficiently? etc)

For me it's often a more sous-chef role. Could you please hand me the soup can. Do you see the dill because I don't. Cheese?

It helps keep me from brain locking up because two things have simultaneous equal importance, and my brain recognizes my partner as a trustworthy entity who usually does the other thing that I know needs doing.

That makes a lot of sense! My brain doesn’t do that except when I’m very very tired, but I can see how a trusted partner would be helpful.

Usually it takes the form of "I need to start the soup and I also need to clear the sink and my brain is locked."
"Okay, I'll get the sink."
"Great, thank you!"

But there was one time that we were both in a chat and someone came in looking for the admins because they had discovered someone left a note suggesting they were in peril. My partner, without previous coordination from me, started calmly interviewing the scared friend while I started hunting down the admins. It was exactly what needed doing and while user in peril calls are always super stressful, I felt supported instead of panicked and alone. So we have that history.

Oh, that’s excellent :)
