Read the draft of an article about the region and period I work on that a senior academic unexpectedly emailed to me while I was having lunch. Now attempting to convince myself that another Anglophone working on this region and period does not mean that people are stealing my research turf and that there will be nothing original left for me to say ever. Once this process is complete I will contemplate emailing with my feedback.

I know the feeling from my own experiences in academia, but I promise you, I know you will have stuff to say that no one else has said. ♥ It might take a while to find it, but I'm sure you will.

Oh dear! That's so frustrating, isn't it? But it definitey doesn't mean you won't have anything left to say--if someone else is working on it, more likely you'll get inspired by some little thing they say and you can both feed on each other's work to new heights of awesome.
