I had my second post-op with my orthopedist today. I am taking at least 2 more weeks if not another month of medical leave to properly heal rather than letting my feelings of guilt over missing the busy season win. Putting myself first is something a struggle with.

I 'finished' reading work sent by a student, and returned it to them. With copious notes about what needs to be done before I can read the rest of it.

Also some other stuff, but that was the important one for the day.

Thank you! This is the student who previously thanked me for 'going above and beyond', so hopefully still feels that way. Today's feedback on my comments was 'well, I didn't faint'. This is draft 1.5 for a paper that could possibly have been stretched to two papers, but would have been a bit thin, so the first task is to work out what is superfluous.

Got through obnoxious dentist appointment.

Got the remaining license plate off my car myself.

Got through obnoxious DMV lack-of-appointment.

Got the new license plate on myself.

Had a lovely fun time with someone special.

Communicated. Even though I was scared everything could go wrong.

I accepted the necessity of cutting it short.

Skype informed me that "short" had been in excess of three hours.

Even though I feel super-bad about it, have asked for (and am in process of having my line manager and Big Boss approve) an exemption from teaching starting next year because my workload is so overwhelming.

Here's hoping you get it. The workload expected of academics (including research only) here seems staggering, and I can't imagine it is any better where you are.

I took full advantage of the fact that I design my story time to be fun for me as well as the little ones.

I continue to do things that are part of my job that really should give me managerial pay.
