Just One Thing (12 January 2017)
Jan. 12th, 2017 07:36 amIt's challenge time!
Comment with Just One Thing you've accomplished in the last 24 hours or so. It doesn't have to be a hard thing, or even a thing that you think is particularly awesome. Just a thing that you did.
Feel free to share more than one thing if you're feeling particularly accomplished!
Extra credit: find someone in the comments and give them props for what they achieved!
Nothing is too big, too small, too strange or too cryptic. And in case you'd rather do this in private, anonymous comments are screened. I will only unscreen if you ask me to.
Go!

Prescription renewals.
Giving of grief to websites that function poorly for their design.
Yesterday, I said to my psychiatrist that I was awake before I really wanted to be, but that I wasn't a resentful zombie. He could tell the difference. :)

Date: 2017-01-13 08:51 am (UTC)I'm particularly impressed by the giving of grief to websites -- if only the entire internet could get the message instantly, rather than one individual, one instance of grievousness, one hope for improvement.

Date: 2017-01-13 09:08 am (UTC)I tend to save my comments for websites that require me to enter data in such a way that they are going to not get what it appears that they think they are going to get (why allow me to enter an age <18, if you have specified I must be 18 to participant in Thing!. That kind of issue). Also, alt text -- middle child is now 16, so I've been hassling people intermittently for at least that long about alt text, and the internet is still a wasteland of indescribable images.

Date: 2017-01-13 03:04 pm (UTC)The fuckers at Twitter have finally added support for adding alt text, but apparently only from mobile, and it's an OPTION that has to be ACTIVELY TURNED ON
Like, in order to be offered the ability to transcribe the images you share, you have to go rummaging around in the settings first.

Date: 2017-01-14 09:07 pm (UTC)a) They know they'll get people under 18 trying anyway, and this will help them weed those users out, rather than letting the sign-up design suggest to them that they should lie about their age.
b) They know they're probably not going to touch the sign-up form for several years, and they hardcoded the year list, so this way it'll be good for at least a few more years.
But yes, it would be so much better to stop people at the "You entered a birth year that indicates you're below 18. How about you stop filling out the form here, friend?" point, rather than having the form let you waste time on it.
(The other common birth year to enter by accident is this year or last year, which causes a number of LJ/DW support headaches.)
