Date: 2013-11-25 07:39 am (UTC)I really like the idea of this community in theory. I like the Just One Thing post in theory. I'm not generally much for challenges (it's not how I work... when I work, that is, which is kind of another issue and kind of exactly the problem I'm having), but maybe something will spark me one of these days.
The thing is that I've been feeling useless and stuck in a rut. I've been too exhausted and/or sick to really accomplish anything. My life hasn't gotten anywhere since I went on medical leave from school over a decade ago. And my one attempt to put that behind me, start fresh, and really make a difference is also stuck and not really going anywhere due to practical issues.
So I see the Just One Thing post and sure I'd love to get a boost from finding even some little thing that went right. And, in theory, focusing on that is what I need to do. Heck, it's how I learned to survive way back in my teens when all this started hitting - appreciate the good things, do what you can with what you've got, let the negative go, etc.
Except that what's actually been happening is that I see the Just One Thing post and I try to think of Just One Thing and instead of finding the positive, I end up dwelling on how there really isn't anything I've managed to accomplish in the last 24 hours or the last week or the last month...
(And yeah, posting about how, despite the pain and exhaustion, I managed to scrape myself out of bed worked once. It really was an accomplishment that day. But making that even a semi-regular Just One Thing... let's just say it doesn't work for me.)
I don't know. Maybe the answer is that this community just isn't for me. Maybe I should just leave. I avoided talking about any of this for months because the point here is to find the positive and I don't want to bring negativity to it.
But if someone has some potentially helpful thoughts, I'd be interested to hear. And maybe someone else is in roughly the same boat and finding a solution would make the community more widely useful? Worth a shot, right?
