I got up & ate leftovers. I worked on the dishes. Planning on doing some more dishes & calling grandparents.

Hopefully neighbor kids will stop yelling outside as much. I don't mind them playing esp now with covid & christmas ect. But when it makes our dog bark & interrupts sleep. Its Annoying

I found the floor in my living room all I have to do in there is dust tomorrow and that's done, I picked-up yesterday's mail and watched a big chunk of the Dr. Who marathon at least until Clara turned up. The actress is so good in Victoria, but I don't like what the script and direction did to her character.

I can't wait for the New Years Dr. Who Special. I still don't understand why they nixed the Christmas one. I'm sure there's a reason.

I assume it was covid shenanigans. I'm glad we can still have a special this year.

I think last year's special was on New Years as well, though I could be wrong. I was thinking there was something different about it. I'm just glad we have one as well and a certain individual is back. Is it Friday yet?

I would love to learn to knit. I want skills. You are better than I am. The Christmas candy is gone, but I do have cookies left.

I wouldn't say I'm better than you! Everybody has different skills and talents, after all. That's what makes the world such an interesting place.

I learned how to cast on from a book when I was in my early twenties. For various reasons I didn't stick with knitting at that time, but when I finally took a class in my thirties I was surprised that my hands still knew how to cast on, even though it had been ten years.

Taking a class did help with the learning, but to be honest, a lot I figured out by myself by consulting various sources. It took three different resources (the paper handout from my class, a book, and a video) for me to put the movements together so I could successful purl. I'm not saying that to scare you away but to assert that I *did* learn mostly on my own. Since I learned the basics in the class, everything else I picked up from various videos, or just following along with what a pattern told me to do.

So, yes, you absolutely can learn on your own, and there's tons of knitters who have successfully done so. One of the reasons why I really like KnittingHelp.com is that most of her videos have both an English and Continental version. Those are the two primary ways to knit - I knit Continental but can do English, too. I'd try both and see which feels more comfortable.

That is good news. My grandmother sat over me when I was a kid to make a potholder for my Mom, but that's all she would do. She wasn't a patient woman. I'm also not very coordinated. But, it is awesome news to know that you can teach yourself. Maybe after Covid is over I can find a class. In the meantime I can watch Youtube videos. It can't hurt. I keep wanting to try.

Finished up the last bits of necessary (as in broken/too-small stuff being replaced) sales shopping.

Quilted! Sorted the squares, attached some together, found a suitable middle layer, and sandwiched it all.

Finished packing in the morning, and then my father drove me back here to my apartment. He helped bring up everything and unpacked all my gifts. We bid each other Happy New Year and then he left.





My neighbor across the hall came over to chat, and I gave him the gift that I promised him last week. My mom and I were a bit worried that the book we ordered would set off triggers for him, since one of them is politics. But he says he likes the book and that he'll decide about the triggers, so we'll just see what happens. It was written by a White House photographer, and contains mainly pictures. He's one of those with a politically-divided family, which is a large part of this whole mess.





Talked w/my tutor, who is doing respite again for a neighbor who is on staycation until Friday.
