Got the younger teen to agree to give the grandparents a chance, since they're perfectly fine with child's gender but have a hard time getting out of the pronoun habit. (My parents are better at pronouns for people they've just met. Since I can't tell stories about smol version of child without using the wrong pronoun, I understand but it's still frustrating and hearing the wrong pronoun makes me cringe, not just teen.)

(Speaking as a person who is not their gender of origin, and with a metamour whose parents are being unintentionally hurtful, and openly argumentative when told they're being hurtful, with this same thing) If you don't feel compelled to use the past name of someone who has changed their name with marriage when telling stories about their past, please think about why you think it necessary to use your child's old pronouns when talking about that era? It's not rewriting the past, it's honoring the present.
