Well, the couch to barbell book prompted me to find a weight-lifting gym nearby and I've switched over to their program instead, as it's more suitable for people (like me) with fibromyalgia. My new program at least involves barbell bench presses. So the book did it's job and got me from couch to barbell after all :)
